According to the BBC, steak and peppercorn sauce is the most popular recipe for Valentine's day. Each year couples will do their best to cook their partner's favourite dish. Of course you can just buy a packed of peppercorn suace and add a splash of hot milk, but that would be too easy.

So here is a peppercorn sauce recipe that is easy and oh so tasty to go with any type of steak, saute potatoes or even a vegetable puss pastry tart.

In a saucepan sweat off a couple of shallots

Add some beef boullion (a cube mixed with 200ml hot water) and a spoonfull of peppercorns (in brine)

Reduce this and add some brandy or a good splash of red wine if you have just opened the bottle.

Now open the double cream and poor 350ml into the saucepan.

Reduce the heat right down and leave it to simmer untill the sauce becomes thick... be carful not too leave it too long or too hot or the cream will seperate.

If this happens, add some more double cream and stir it in slowly. Make sure your plates are warm so you can enjoy your meal slowly without it getting cold too soon.

Now pour this over your steak and enjoy your meal.
